lahon
Our home of Lahon (the source), consists of at typical Bearnese house and large converted barn situated in 10 acres of land on the edge of a valley.
We are surrounded by farmland so it is very quiet and peaceful. There are many large trees to sit and relax under with great views of the mountains.
We are child friendly with cots, high chairs, toys and paddling pool available. We can also offer a baby-sitting service.
barn gite
The barn was used for cutting timber but has now been renovated and converted into a comfortable gite with full facilities for up to a maximum of 10 people.
The ground floor has a tiled open plan living/kitchen/dining areas of 107 square metres with a large wood burner.
The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and a range cooker with five gas-ringed hob and electric oven. The dining table easily seats 12. There are two double sofa beds, a single sofa and comfortable chairs and a bamboo bar circa 1970 (you have to supply the bottles!), a television that receives French and Sky English programmes, video, dvd and hi-fi. We have a library of DVD's and videos and a large supply of books and games.
On the first floor there are two separate areas each with 2 double bedrooms (each with shower & WC) and living areas. There is also a curtained mezzanine area with a double sofa bed.
facilities
To one side of the barn is a pool, 10m x 5m, fitted with a security alarm and a white picket fence to the front. In the pool house there is a shower, wc and laundry facilities. Sun shades, sun loungers, covered games area, pelota wall, boule court, dining terraces, barbecue, and garden furniture are all included.
There are nearly 6 hectares of south facing land with great views of the mountains, which is mainly grass with a plantation and small wood, that leads down to the bottom of the valley.
cook-in
Although the kitchen is fully equipped, you can have an evening off from the cooking and call Hello Chef - Bruno and Carla will cook and serve a typical French meal for you in the gite.
local restaurants
The nearest is Che Courbet in Sevignac, a family restaurant serving great food, with attached bar. Other restaurants are Lou Manechal just up the valley and Restaurant Delatour in Lembeye; very French and quirky with superb food about 20 minutes drive. Fast-food is available at the take-away pizza restaurant in Garlin. Further afield - 30 minute drive - is the 2 star Michelin restaurant in Eugenie les Bains but you will have to book well ahead. There is a huge range of restaurants in Pau including Indian and Vietnamese.

shopping
Send a food shopping list and we can have your requirements ready for when you on you arrival. There is a boulangerie, chemist and post office about 5 minutes drive. Garlin is our nearest town (a ten minute drive) with a range of shops, bars and a take-away pizza restaurant. A large Intermarche supermarket and garage is just outside the town. A larger town with markets on Saturday and Tuesday is Aire sur l'Adour on the river.
Pau is city with lots of designer shops, two hyper-markets, and lots of things to do. When you need a rest you can sit at one of the cafes on the Boulevard de Pyrenees looking at the mountains through the palm trees. It takes 40 minutes into the centre where the parking is free or very cheap.
Freshly baked bread is delivered on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
